COMPANIES LOSE COMPETITIVENESS BY FAILING
TO OPTIMISE THEIR SUPPLY CHAINS
Businesses are failing to take advantage
of significant cost saving and productivity improvements
by not optimising and updating their supply chains,
according to Walsh Western International (WWI),
one of Europe's leading supply chain providers.
To overcome this problem, WWI has today unveiled
its Fulfilment Solution, which can be specifically
tailored to each company's requirement ensuring
that businesses continually deliver beyond expectations.
WWI Fulfilment is designed to always look for ways
to eliminate operational inefficiencies by decreasing
inventory, minimising 'touches' and reducing cycle
times. This rigorous approach to constant process
improvement provides customers with a faster, more
cost-effective service, giving them the edge over
their competitors.
Phil Cocking, managing director for WWI (UK), commented:
"In my experience there is no standard supply
chain solution. The companies that are most successful
are those that have a flexible fulfilment solution
that can react immediately to market changes yet
still provides the most cost effective way of getting
goods to the end user. Many companies make the mistake
of changing provider to try to improve the supply
chain, but without improving the underlying process,
many inefficiencies are just carried through.
"WWI's fulfilment solution allows a business
to have a supply chain that is flexible enough to
react to the constant evolution of its customers'
demands. This gives businesses the competitive edge.
We can minimise the overall cost of the supply chain
without compromising security, inventory control
or stock integrity."
WWI Fulfilment provides a warehouse management system
that can be integrated with clients' own systems.
The service offers pack-out, kitting and labelling
as required with diagnostic testing and quality
checking also available. Each individual piece of
equipment that enters WWI system is logged with
its serial number and warranty details and monitored
throughout its entire journey, from the moment it
is collected from the supplier to the moment it
is received by the customer.
WWI also provides a vendor hubbing service which
can be integrated as part of WWI Fulfilment for
its clients. Particularly in the high tech sector,
parts are manufactured all over the world. These
parts are delivered to WWI, collated and then delivered
as and when the customer requires often to tight
timescales. Call centres and a customer facing website
support this function which enables both suppliers
and customers to track their order continually.
The specific information requested is relayed in
a matter of seconds.
Many suppliers have to deal with worthless unwanted
or damaged goods which take up valuable space and
are often not logged back into the supply chain
system. WWI Fulfilment has the capability to be
able to reclaim the specific piece, log it back
into the system, and then decide what parts can
be resold. If necessary, products can be disposed
of in an environmentally friendly way - an element
that will become increasingly important to businesses
with the introduction of the Waste Electrical and
Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive at the beginning
of 2005.
WWI Fulfilment also includes a detrashing service,
which removes all the packaging such as polystyrene,
cardboard and plastics that protects a product during
transit. WWI removes this packaging before it reaches
the customers' hands so that it doesn't take up
valuable space within the home or workplace, and
ensures that it is disposed of in an environmentally
friendly fashion.
